Clustering Device Programmers: Evolution beyond Conventional Gang Programmers

Clustering Device Programmers: Evolution beyond Conventional Gang Programmers

If you have used or are thinking of getting a device programmer for your computer hardware needs, then you have likely heard of and are considering the purchase of universal device programmers which Xeltek offers you a range of. Universal programmers have been met with tremendous success overseas and have to used to great effect because of their efficacy, superior quality and their ability to be highly customizable. Hitherto, the typical choice for volume programming of ICs has been use of Traditional Gang programmers which may come with 4, 8, or 16 programming sockets. However, this is an old technology and there are following limitations in this:

  1. With Traditional Gang programmers all programming sockets are controlled by one controller and with one data buffer, which limits flexibility.
  2. Programming of chips is done simultaneously but verifying is done sequentially. In other words, the 8 socket programmer does not provide 8 times the output. It may provide 5 to 6 times the output.
  3. Many of today’s gang programming applications require to be programmed with different data for each chip. The serial number, the configuration data and the calibration data are different for each chip. Since a traditional gang programmer has only one data buffer, all chips have to be programmed with same data. Therefore, traditional gang programmers are unable to support such applications.

This is where SuperPro gang programmers separate from traditional gang programmers. Unlike deficiencies that have been explained above, SuperPro gang programmers support all applications above and avoid any inadequacy by its technologically advanced design.

Unfortunately, with gang programmers a choice has to be made at the outset as regards the number of programming sockets. This is because a future upgrade to higher sockets is difficult owing to the fact that new equipment would have to be purchased again at high cost.

Cluster programming by use of individual programmers solve all of the problems present in the gang programmers applications. The advent of stand-alone programmer, which operates by itself without a PC attached, makes cluster programming ideal. Xeltek has been producing stand-alone programmers for the last 5 years and is now a world leader in the stand-alone programmer market.

Xeltek gives you the option different kinds of programmers of which give people the option of buying according to their requirement:

Each of these have their own unique application which needs to be considered before deciding what is suitable for every individual requirement. Before you decide to buy a programmer, it is useful to consider the qualities and particular capability of each so that you can make an informed decision about what is right for you:

  • Xeltek’s Gang programmers are equipped with 4ea high speed 48pin DIP programming sockets (SuperPro 5004GP has 144pin) and they support over 40,000 devices (SuperPro 5004GP supports more than 46,000 devices) at this time which number is growing. This is more than any gang programmer can support in the market right now. These gang programmers support more than 1000 socket adapters.
  • Asynchronous fast programming is ensured by each module being independent from one another. The programming starts automatically when a chip is inserted.
  • In order to be able to cluster programmers, the individual or single programmers should support the Stand-alone or PC free programming mode or feature.
  • It is usually recommended that SuperPro 3000U and SuperPro 501S can be clustered.
  • For production operation, SuperPro 3000U N*Cluster & SuperPro 501S N*Cluster operate in stand-alone (without a PC attached) mode. Just insert the chip and the programming operation is totally hands-free. By operating multiple programmers simultaneously you can use them in high volume production environment.
  • Since there is no requirement for a host PC for the running of the programmer, there is no requirement for hiring skilled labor for the operation which translates into savings.
  • The fact that the clustering device programmer is based on the operating hands free mode and does not require any PC screen operation, it is able to minimize operator error as well, which is a not inconsiderable advantage and which one would have to take into account.
  • You have the added benefit of being able to ensure the security of your data because you have the option of removing the CF cards at end of each day and storing them separately with this device programmer.
  • When using this device programmer, you will find that when you want to make the changeover from the engineering stage to the manufacturing phase, it is a smooth and painless transition since you use the same programmer and CF card for data storage for the engineering phase.
  • It is possible for a person to be able to easily operate 10 or more programmers concurrently; this offers the flexibility in 1-N sockets instead of fixed 8 sockets.
  • Xeltek has conducted tests which have shown that 5 or 6 sets of SUPERPRO 501S operating concurrently are able to produce the same throughput as an 8gang programmer programming the chipset (27C322) at 240 seconds.

These are just some of the factors that you should consider when you are undertaking the purchase for gang device programmers.

SuperPro 5000 and SuperPro 5004GP currently support 32 Gb NAND FLASH memories

May 19th, 2009 sohail 1 comment

Xeltek Inc. is proud to inform their valuable customers with their large size NAND Flash programming support which is growing daily. Since December, 2007; little after Xeltek launched their new programming solution family: SuperPro 5000 and SuperPro 5004GP, Xeltek has started supporting 32 Gb NAND Flash devices with Samsung K9HBG08U1M. As of today, supported NAND Flash devices count by SuperPro 5000/5004GP is way higher than the other programmers in the market.

Programming and verifying speed of SuperPro 5K families for NAND devices are 64 MB per minute which equals to 8Mb per second. It is surprising that, the price for SuperPro 5000/5004GP programmers is approximately %40 cheaper than the other manufacturers’ cheapest programmers that can program 32 Gb NAND; even though the programming speeds are identical. On the contrary, all SuperPro 5K products have been presented in the market since the beginning of this year and supporting 32 Gb NAND Flash, not like we are announcing that we are on development phase.

By having the market based on China; world’s factory, and with the contribution of Xeltek China and Xeltek Korea, Xeltek Inc. is enjoying the advantages of technological advanced facilities. It is also known as Xeltek has always had rapid responses for customer’s algorithm requests and has already had much experience on dealing bad block issues.

Currently, Xeltek Inc. supports more than 400 NAND Flash devices such as Micron MT29F32G08QAAWP, Intel JS29F32G08FANC1 and etc…Beside that, Xeltek is also supporting various NAND devices from various major companies listed as Samsung, Hynix, Toshiba, Micron, Intel, ST, Spansin. And there is no doubt the more will be coming in near future. “As the technology and market allows, we will keep supporting large size NAND devices. We are the biggest follower of this NAND technology.” said Sam Kim, CEO/President Xeltek Inc. “Let’s face the fact that Xeltek is shining from Far East.”

SuperPro 5000 & SuperPro 5004GP is supporting over 50,000 devices

May 19th, 2009 sohail No comments

California, USA, May 4th, 2009(Xeltek.com); Xeltek has announced that SuperPro 5000 universal programmers and SuperPro 5004GP gang programmers are supporting 50,668 devices. In other words, SuperPro 5000 series programmers allow you to program 50,668 different devices. There is no other company that was able to reach supporting this many number of devices on one programmer, yet! This is a FIRST in device programming industry, and Xeltek is so proud to be the pioneer for such a milestone. Xeltek introduced SuperPro 5000 and SuperPro 5004GP to the market on May, 2008. During that time, they were only supporting less than 20,000 devices. In twelve months, Xeltek’s engineers added more than 30,000 devices under device support list of SuperPro 5000 and SuperPro 5004GP. This is an obvious result of hardworking and dedication of Xeltek members.

The President of Xeltek; Mr. Kim, said “We are pleased to announce 50,000 Device counts on Xeltek Superpro5000 Universal and 5004 Gang Programmers. Xeltek is the industry’s first to reach the milestone!” and added “We thank our dedicated team of engineers and staffs for reaching the worthy milestone.”

Xeltek is sharing this delightful moment with all its representatives and users. And in celebration of this achievement all thanks goes to everybody whoever supported SuperPro.

A PROGRAMMER WITHOUT A DESIRED DEVICE SUPPORT IS A HEAP OF METAL!

WANT TO INCREASE WEBSITE TRAFFIC: MEET PPC ADVERTISING!

May 19th, 2009 sohail 1 comment

Pay per click (PPC) is an Internet based advertising model used on search engines, advertising networks, and content websites, such as blogs or forums, where advertisers only pay when a user actually clicks on an advertisement to visit the advertisers’ website. With search engines, advertisers typically bid on keyword phrases relevant to their target market. When a user types a keyword query matching an advertiser’s keyword list, or views a webpage with relevant content, the advertisements may be displayed. Such advertisements are called sponsored links or sponsored ads.

Sponsored search placement/advertising and listing on search engines are becoming increasingly popular and the most preferred way of drawing qualified traffic for websites waiting to do business. It enables businesses to buy top placements on leading search engines. It is commonly called PPC advertising. Minimum prices per click, often referred to as costs per click (CPC), vary depending on the search engine and the level of competition for a particular phrase or keyword list—with some CPCs as low as US$0.01. Very popular search terms can cost much more on popular search engines like “Flash programmer” which costs more than $1 per click (on Google) because of having high competition and reputation.

Pay per click campaigns can be categorized into two major categories: sponsored match (or keyword) and content match. Sponsored match campaigns involve the display of advertisements on search engine results pages, whereas content match campaigns involve the display of advertisements on publisher websites, newsletters, and e-mails. the search and content networks can help you achieve different goals. Search marketing is highly effective at capturing existing demand. Your ads are delivered to an engaged audience actively searching for keywords relevant to your business. Conversely, the content network helps you create demand by attracting potential customers while they’re browsing relevant content on the web. Therefore, you may receive lesser number of clicks on the content network as compared to the search network. If you are running same campaign on search and content network at the same time, you may pick different default bids. Content network usually costs less than search engine campaigns but search engine campaigns always bring the most effective returns. Another important point, CTR (click through rate) and conversion rate is not important for content network. CPC (cost per click) and cost per conversion is important. But CTR (if you don’t have an appealing ad, or your ad is triggered by under unrelated keywords, your click through rate will decrease) created the most important term for search engine campaigns: Quality Score. Your keyword related ad text, your CTR, your landing page and many other factors affects your quality score. And the higher quality score you have, the lower you will pay for that keyword. For this reason, bidding on organic food for Xeltek is not a wise decision because of the high possibility of ending up with a very low quality score. Don’t forget that cultural differences may also impact on CTR. Consider the culture if you are bidding on specific regions.

Notable PPC-based search engines

  • Ask.com
  • Baidu.com
  • MIVA
  • Google (Google AdWords)
  • Vibrant Media
  • MSN/Live Search (Microsoft adCenter)
  • Overture (Yahoo! Search Marketing)

General Tips for PPC Advertising

Before we deep dive into online advertising, we have to always remember the basic rule of PPC “Advertising isn’t advertising when it is information”. You are putting an effort, you are dedicating a budget and you should never act like a wiki page to land your users on. Always aim the right target and give them something they can buy at the end. Convert clicks into return. Here are the key points for the best practice of such an effort:

1) Focused Keyword Research

2) Compelling Ads

3) Efective landing pages

First thing first, UNDERSTAND YOUR INDUSTRY and relate it with your products! It is all about the keywords. You have to know what keywords are vital for your selling goods to attract customers. That’s why you need to find the right keywords. Forget about the marketing tools floating around the web. Follow your cavemen insticts, make an internal search through your website, determine the important words and in the end define your keywords. Marketing is sum of your efforts; none of those virtual tools can do better than you. The more effort you put, the better result will return.

You have to catch unique selling points. That’s why you need to understand your industry. Dig for the niche! And determine: “Why my company is unique?” or “why i am good at this market?”. Once you know the difference, you are ready to go because you know what to look for. Right after you have a model in your mind about your industry, start digging your website to find the proper keywords. But don’t search it as if you are the creator of the website! This is the biggest mistake of a marketing person can fall into. Search it as if you are a potential customer, or a pointless user who is charmed with the ad. To give you a solid example, 90% of the serious buyers don’t search your website as “free programmer”; or let’s be more specific, most of the universal programmers fans don’t search for the specific programmer term such as “superpro 3000U”. They search for more generic terms like “gang programmer”, “socket adapters”. That’s why you need to define your keywords from the user point of view. There are 4 kinds of keywords:

a. Explicit > directly describe the product (programmer)

b. Condition/problem > describes the conditions the product solves (production programming)

c. Casual/symptoms > describes the problem (fast programming)

d. Product name/part number > (SuperPro 3000U)

Determine which one serves your portfolio better. In our case, we can bid for all types of keywords as long as we received the satisfactory impressions and clicks and convert them into a value.

We have created the list of zillions keywords and now we are ready to skip to the next step: Not that easy! We have hundreds of keywords and most of them are highly searched terms. But if you don’t know how to categorize those keywords and group them, you will be only donating your money to Google. This is like order of chain in the army: start creating campaigns such as content campaign or search engine campaign. Then, create ad groups under those campaigns, such as “gang programmers”, “eprom programmers” and start listing related keywords under these ad groups. Gathering related keywords under one ad group is important because of using the same ad text for ten keywords at a time. You can create separate ad text for each keyword but it will be difficult. Let’s demonstrate a sample ad text:

Captivating Headline >> Xeltek vs Needhams

Business Feature >> Needhams is gone! Get SuperPro®

Consumer Benefit >> 48,000+ Devices, Compare it now!

Display URL >> www.Xeltek.com

Recall the PPC pillars: Compelling ads! Be as attractive as possible. Do not forget that PPC is worthwhile when you act like a whole. In other words, finding the best keyword that describe your website, or including the high traffic keywords are not going to help you to increase the website traffic. They will only give you a temporary buzz. That’s why you also need to have charming ads. Don’t forget, it is always better to have more than 1 ad text for each ad group.

And the last pillar of PPC: Effective Landing Pages! Landing pages are the pages that you direct users to your website followed their click on the ad. Now you got the best list of keywords and the most appealing ad texts, but what if users clicks on your ad and ends up with a crappy website which doesn’t keep users on that page more than 3 seconds. What’s going to happen? Yet another donation to Google! You should send the user to the most relevant page on your website for that keyword. Please do not forget, the most relevant page doesn’t mean being informative; once again, giving only information is not advertising. And if you have a long homepage/landing page, forget about having users scroll it down. Only 23% scrolls down! What they see is there! And only 0.3% scrolls right! And do not have your landing page as PDF. For this reason, optimize your web pages to extract the best performance.

Xeltek Recommended Keywords

Xeltek Inc, promotes various industry related keywords such as “gang programmer” ,” chip programmer” , etc… on various search engines such as Google, Yahoo, MSN and content ad portals such as MIVA, Vibrant Media and AOL. And accordingly, we get thousands of clicks everyday. As example, the followings are the most popular keywords for our Google AdWords and Overture online search marketing.

Google AdWords

1.SuperPro

7.PIC Programmer

Overture

1.Chip Programmer

2.Xeltek

8.Flash Programmer

2.PIC Programmer

3.Eeprom

9.Universal Programmer

3.Eprom Programmer

4.Nand Flash

10.Chip Programmer

4.Eeprom Programmer

5.Eprom Programmer

11.IC programmer

5.IC Programmer

6.Eeprom Programmer

12.IC programming

6.Socket Adapter

Be careful of using controversial keywords such as “flash programmer”, or “pic programmer”. “Flash programmer” may refer to Macromedia Flash products, and “PIC programmer” may refer to picture of any programmer. To avoid such controversy and not to waste your marketing budget, you need to use negative keywords. Negative keywords are the keywords that are included under your campaign or ad group with starting “-“ (such as having “-snowboard” inside of the ad group where you bid for “SuperPro”), and when those excluded keywords triggered by the search query or content of any page that belongs to content network of advertised online portal, your ad will not appear. In conclusion, negative keywords increase your CTR, increase your conversion rate, increase ad’s relevancy and lowers marketing cost. If you are running an online ad, always use negative keywords!

You may try to bid on one market only. By creating geo-targeted campaigns, you can narrow your ads to areas or languages and receive more impacts. And also keep it in mind that November, and December are completely different than the regular times. Do not take those months as reference since online shopping is happening too much during holiday season.

Once more, in order to be a good online marketer, you have to put effort. The more effort you put on online marketing, the more money you’ll make in return. Please do not hesitate to ask Xeltek for their marketing support. We will be more than happy to serve you.

Xeltek Partition Merge Software

May 19th, 2009 sohail 2 comments

Do you know that Xeltek has “Partition Merge Software”? Xeltek has a smart tool to combine files for the customer’s special NAND programming requirement. Xeltek design engineers helped Qualcomm to implement the related projects with partition programming.

Xeltek SuperPro Programmers support a lot of NAND Flash devices from different chip manufacturers. There are 3 different types of bad block handling methods for NAND Flash programming. Beside the standard method “skip bad block”, Xeltek software also provides “Hard Copy” and “Partition” programming Options. “Hardcopy” is used to read the chip that was programmed on a third party programmer with different methods.

Partition Programming is a more complex bad block handling method. Xeltek currently uses Qualcomm multiple partition method and is mainly applied to Qualcomm’s wireless card and mobile phone platforms as well as some Linux systems. If the user wants to program multiple segments of data starting at the assigned locations, Xeltek has “Partition Merge Software” to help generating a programmable file.
